The weather was kind – (until we started to take the marquee down) – the surroundings beautiful, the organisation good and the bbq done to perfection. This all served to enable many IOM Beekeepers, some with their families, to relax and enjoy a great day at Ballachurry.

Key attraction for many was to learn how to make skeps, for others, straw dollies. Or just to wander around the glorious garden, taking care, especially, not to miss the fascinating ancient bee boles in the wall.

Remarkably, this property has played host to beekeepers for centuries and Stan certainly keeps the tradition going, not only with his conventional hives but also the unconventional one, way up in the chimney!

Thanks to Pat for the organisation, to Kaerron for slaving over the hot barbeque, Norrie for his patience teaching skep-making, Alan for his corn-dolly tuition and of course to Stan and Pam for hosting a glorious day.
